Mehi, Chasity and Quitah - 6 Hats Current events

Here is my 6 hats current events. Today my article is about "Peeing in the shower and save water."

Mehi and Chasity - Fishing Practices - Information Report

Fishing Practices:

The sea is full of sea creatures. Some people use different techniques when going fishing, but some techniques can damage some parts of many different ocean habitats. For example, here are some fishing practices people use to fish.

Dredging:

Dredging is one method used for fishing practices. It can be harmful to the deep sea climate, but can also result in high levels of bycatch. By restricting dredging areas, bycatch and damage to seafloor life can be reduced. To prevent this problem from happening you can regulate the areas where dredging occurs. When you are dredging you will need metal-framed baskets (Cages). These metal-framed baskets you will catch shellfish like oysters, clams, crabs, pipis, mussels, and scallops.

Gillnetting:

Gillnetting can accidentally entangle and catch ocean animals, such as.. Sea turtles, marine animals and sharks, which could kill them this could happen if people just dump their steel nets back into the water and leave it in the ocean. When you are gillnetting you would need steel nets. These steel nets can catch fish, and Unintended sea creatures.

Traps and Pots:

When traps are used in the ocean and are Abandoned, there are a few concerns of conservation happening with this fishing methods. When you want to use traps and pots you will need wire or wood cages. These wire or wood cages can catch lobsters, crabs, shrimp, sablefish and Pacific cod.

Bottom Trawling:

A bottom trawl is a type of fishing net that's pulled along the seafloor. Fishermen commonly use bottom trawls to catch shrimp and bottom-dwelling fish like halibut and sole. However, to these target fish, the nets also catch a variety of ocean life that's usually thrown back dead or dying. Dragging heavy gear across the sea bed can also damage seafloor habitats.

Conclusion
In conclusion fishing practices can be used in many good different ways but sometimes it can damage some of the different sea creature habitats.

Mehi - Duffy Reflection

Today we had a whole school Duffy assembly. We had two visitors named Joshua and Cory. They were brothers. Joshua told us a story that happened to his grandfather. It was very inspirational. Then he said a poem which is called 'Brown Brother'. It was very inspirational and made me realise that being brown is good and now I am proud to be brown. Then after he said his poem it was time to hand out the books to students. When that had finished we were allowed to ask them questions. Some students had some very interesting questions. But in the end it was a very inspirational Duffy assembly which made me feel good.

Mehi - Tuakana Teina Room 1 and 8 song

Here is a short video about what Room 8 and room 1 did together today.

Mehi - Tuakana Teina - Room 1

Today for the morning Miss Barlow's class which is room 1 came into room 8 and did some writing. We had to buddy up with somebody. My buddy was my little brother Lino. He was a great partner. We had to create a sea creature with our imagination and describe it. Our sea creature was called 'Candy Monster'. It was called that because it loved to eat candy and because it lived on candy island too. It was wonderful to have room one in room 8 especially when we all learned a new song call the kaimoana song it went like this:
Kina Kina
Wheke wheke
Ika ika
Tuna tuna
Pipi pipi
Paua paua
Kaimoana e !... Hi!!

Mehi - Our Experience on the Waitangi Trip - Waitangi Treaty grounds - Copthorne Hotel e.c.t...

Last week, we went on our Waitangi Trip. The reason why we went up north to the Bay of islands was because, we entered into a movie competition that was about the 'Treaty of Waitangi'. Our main/big question was 'WHY is the treaty of Waitangi still RELEVANT today?...' Our Movie was based on this question.. and the topics we studied were.. Protection... Participation and ... Partnership.. Well also known as the three 'P's'. The group that made the movie, were called 'The Royal Pages..' I was apart of that reading group. In the end we were the winners for the upper north students, which meant our reading group were able to go and stay up at the Copthorne hotel resort, but also, not only did we go, but the student council also came, which was fair because they've worked hard to be role models for our school and make good decisions as well.

A highlight from the Waitangi trip would've been, Kayaking because we all got to bod together and work together as a team and my other highlight was the waka experience because Matua Hone taught us new hakas as we were paddling and he told us to don't be afraid to follow and chase your dream because he only got to follow his dream when he was 40 years old but he wished that he could've followed his dream earlier. But in the end it was so much fun and I would just like to say thank you very much to the sponsors who paid and actually made this trip happen, If it weren't for you guy's this great opportunity wouldn't have happened for us young adolescence.

Mehi - My Maths Learning log

Ahigma's Spine

Ahigma’s Spine.

A thousand years ago, in the midst of the battlefield. Death scattered far and wide like black roses. Lost in the wind. Blood pouring viciously scaling the pale blades of the grass. The foul stench of grief strayed uncertainly, stroking the hearts of many fighters.

On the shore the battle continued. Ahigma desperately defending his home Anguilla  of the Caribbean. Strong as he was, his faith faltered as many more soldiers fell.
“AHIGMA!” His fellow friend Jack called over the clashes of blades and spears.
“WHAT!?” He shouted back, concerned for Jack.
“HOW LONG TILL WE FALL?” Jack replied, tears threatening to spill.
Ahigma shook his head in frustration as he charged forward, wounding his rather large opponent.  “WHERE IS YOUR HEART AT? FIGHT! THERE IS NO PLACE FOR WEAKNESS!” Ahigma’s eyes scanned the shore looking for someone to kill.

He sprinted towards the left of the golden sand, now tinged with crimson blood, towards a soldier in the water, raising his hand to drive his sword forward. CRACK! SNAP! His spine had been punctured by a spear. He fell into the water, his last thought before losing consciousness echoing in his dark and clouded mind...I have no faith and confidence in the other soldiers.

***

Water lapped over the golden specks of sand that sat still, as Ahigma rolled onto the banks. He woke with a sudden jolt. Unaware of his location.  He sat up on the golden specks of the Anegada, a mere island located within The Virgin Islands. He stood up strolling 5 feet before coming to a halt. He stooped down low to scoop a handful of gin clean water. As time passed he stumbled deeper into the forest, his vision blurring as he discovered a home in the centre of a clearing, surrounded by a ring of trees. He ran, tripping over his own feet. He hauled himself onto the the porch as he pounded on the door desperately awaiting an answer. The door creaked open.

“By the lord! WHO ARE YOU!?” A voice screeched. The lady dragged him into the cabin. Huffing and puffing. Ahigma watched her move around frantically, as she shook her head at the site of his back, while he lay on his stomach. Her movements around the  wooden home firm, but graceful.

He managed to croak. “My name is Ahigma…”
She placed her hand on her hip “What is goin’ on? First you stumble around and now you be all lazy...HMMMM? My,my,my, oh goodness I hear there’s a war goin’ on? On the island of Anguilla?”
He sat up suddenly “ I must return to my...my...home…”
“Ain’t no way you are goin’ back there!  There’s only one way to get you home.”  She muttered thoughtfully.
Ahigma stood up curious. “ How?”
She smirked. Eyes sparkling. “They way of the tide.”

He followed her through the forest, through the towers of leaves and bark and to the shore.
She sighed, “The way of the tide heals your back but keeps you in the form the tide chooses, so good luck my friend.” She chanted strange words. Water leaped from the water grabbing Ahigma to the depths of the ocean.

At the shore of Anguilla as the war raged on, an emerald turtle arose in the ocean. It’s shell smashed into hexagons. A broken shield.  Snatched from the ocean shore, the smart mind of a soldier using him as shield. The smart mind belonged to Josh. The war was won by the soldiers of Anguilla.  The turtle renewed with a shell of cracks and patterns.

But what of Ahigma...Where did he go after being snatched by the  sea? Just remember “The way of the tide” chooses the form of whoever is taken by the ocean.  What if Ahigma shielded his companions?

Mehi - Multiplication Triangle

This is the multiplication  triangle that I have completed. I found it a bit challenging but I finished it in the end. There were big numbers but the answer came to be zero.

Mehi - Writing Persuasive - Collaboration

Collaborate to Success

Have you ever wondered how collaboration works?  Well it’s just like how flowers grow.  Collaboration is the water and sun working together to make the flower grow, we are the flower gaining prior knowledge from our friends, which is like how the sun and water giving the flower water and heat to grow.  Also, sharing our prior knowledge with others is just like how flowers give out carbon dioxide but in a good way.

My first reason is collaborating in the class makes more work get done faster and more ideas are shared and when I say this I mean: when others work together they have interesting ideas which weave in more ideas to make the work even more better.

My second reason is that collaborating makes you stop being shy and makes you come out of your comfort zone.  That is important, because when you come out of your comfort zone you will gain your confidence and will find public speaking easier in the future.

My third reason is collaborating with others can help you learn from your mistakes. This means that when you get something wrong your buddies can help you develop what you got wrong and can maybe give you goals to work on.

This is why I recommend that collaborating is a really positive and efficient way to learn because not only do you get the work done, but you get to meet more friends that you don’t really hang out with which can help you meet even more new friends in the future.  Also, you can collaborate with your voices. This means that when you collaborate with your voices you can make perfect harmonies just like the group ‘Collabro’ who actually won Britain’s Got Talent 2014.

Shakespeare And Image

Our task for this week was to find a descriptive line in the Romeo and Juliet play. This descriptive and metaphoric line come's from Romeo's conversation with Mercutio. We also had to find a picture that displays what the line meant. We were also given the task to state what we think the piece of dialogue means.
