How does Electricity travel?

Electricity is a form of power that can make things turn on such as television, heaters, ovens and so on.

Are you aware that electricity starts travelling from the power stations? Most of the electricity people use comes from power stations.

Inside a power station is a device called a generator. A generator is an energy source, which gets its power from wind, water or coal. It turns blades of a turbine inside the generator.

Did you know that there is a spinning magnet that creates a flow of electricity?

After a while electricity travels to the power lines which is on tall towers that carries the electricity from power plants.

Then it travels to a substation where the transformers reduce the strength. This is called voltage.

Later on it then it travels to the distribution lines where it carries the electricity to peoples house and buildings. Finally electricity travels to our homes to make electrical appliances switch on.

Manaiakalani Film Festival 2012 and School is Cool

In Term 2 we were learning a lot about movie magic, and how movies can influence our world. We created many movies. We started by brainstorming key messages we could include in our movies.

We also made a movie that explains how to plant kumara. It was really fun to do. We created this movie to inspire people to learn how to grow their own kumara.

Our movie for The Manaiakalani Film Festival is called 'School Is Cool'. We made it to share all of the cool learning and fun that we have at school.

Our movie was also shown at the Tamaki Primary Academy Awards. We created a PMI about Movie Magic and shared what we liked, what was challenging and interesting.

Shooting Explosions In The Air

Gazing over the beautiful night sky, colourful colours sparkled above us. Shooting explosions in the air  was twice as nice as seeing smiles on faces. As the flowerpots sweated with flames, I felt excited as more parties happened in the air. As we heard laughter in the background and cheering chants, sizzling sausages made me feel hungry.’BOOM BOOM BANG’was heard from every corner in the street. Dancing smoke was surrounding all of us as we breathed it in and raced down my lungs. One by one, colours just bursted up with popping noises which made us frightened. As I yawned, I felt really exhausted but I didn’t want it to end. I strolled down to my bedroom with a last forever smile, feeling that this day wouldn’t be forgotten. Ash and smoke travelled down the street like it was a misty fog saying its goodbyes.

Movie Making Evaluation

My Speech Evaluation

How did you feel about presenting your speech to the class? I felt confident and proud of myself because I wasn’t shy.

What was the hardest part about preparing a speech? The hardest thing about presenting my speech was memorising the words properly and using hand gestures.

What did you enjoy most about speeches? By finally getting it done and presenting it to the class.

How could you improve your speech making next time? To use expression and use more eye contact to the audience.

The Three Musketeers

Once in a land called Soccer Land there were three boys named Joe, Mark and Sam.They were best friends ever since kindergarten. The three boys all went to the same school. Joe was the most popular out of both of them because his name is just like Joe Jonas and because he had wavy hair that would swing around while the cool breezy wind flowed by. On the other hand Mark was the youngest one and also the cutest one too. Sam was kind of like a nerd but not completely a nerd, he was just the brainy one. One day there was a special notice that had to go home to the parents and it was a notice that said: Soccer Tournament this Friday,You can also join for free.
Joe, Mark and Sam were so excited that they just signed up.They didn’t even know how to play soccer in fact they didn’t even know what soccer was. When it was time to train the three friends didn’t even know what to do so they just copied what everyone else was doing. It was quite embarassing for them because they were all doing it wrong, so everyone else started to laugh with joy.The boys thought that they were laughing about something else but they were wrong, really wrong. When they went home they were researching facts about soccer. After they had got all of those facts into their minds they were all ready. When it was Thursday they had got better and better and no one seemed to laugh at them any more because there was nothing to laugh about.

When Friday had come the boys were already fit and trained up. They learnt really quick about soccer because they are boys. When they had reached the soccer fields they all became nervous because everyone was counting on them escpecially Joe.Then the games were about to start the horn went on and the games had begun. Joe,Mark and Sam were off they were starting off with a good start actually, Sam and Mark had already got ten goals but Joe had only got nine goals.

Until there were only one minute on the clock until the games were finished and everyone was counting on Joe to get the last goal.
But Joe had caught up to the ball and took it off the other team and then headed to their goal.Joe had zoomed off with the ball so fast that they couldn’t even see him. He was stepping everyone with the ball. When Joe was nearly there he kicked the ball as hard as he could and then it went into the goal. Everyone was so proud of Joe that they had a party just for a celebration and his mother was so proud of him she bought him a new phone and a new ipod.

After few minutes later the three friends were called The Three Musketeers. Then they went to a pizza bar and celebrated there. Then after 5 years the three musketeers coach their own soccers teams now.
