How does Electricity travel?

Electricity is a form of power that can make things turn on such as television, heaters, ovens and so on.

Are you aware that electricity starts travelling from the power stations? Most of the electricity people use comes from power stations.

Inside a power station is a device called a generator. A generator is an energy source, which gets its power from wind, water or coal. It turns blades of a turbine inside the generator.

Did you know that there is a spinning magnet that creates a flow of electricity?

After a while electricity travels to the power lines which is on tall towers that carries the electricity from power plants.

Then it travels to a substation where the transformers reduce the strength. This is called voltage.

Later on it then it travels to the distribution lines where it carries the electricity to peoples house and buildings. Finally electricity travels to our homes to make electrical appliances switch on.

Room 7 Movie Tralier from Tamaki Primary on Vimeo.

Manaiakalani Film Festival 2012 and School is Cool

In Term 2 we were learning a lot about movie magic, and how movies can influence our world. We created many movies. We started by brainstorming key messages we could include in our movies.

We also made a movie that explains how to plant kumara. It was really fun to do. We created this movie to inspire people to learn how to grow their own kumara.

Our movie for The Manaiakalani Film Festival is called 'School Is Cool'. We made it to share all of the cool learning and fun that we have at school.

Our movie was also shown at the Tamaki Primary Academy Awards. We created a PMI about Movie Magic and shared what we liked, what was challenging and interesting.

Shooting Explosions In The Air

Gazing over the beautiful night sky, colourful colours sparkled above us. Shooting explosions in the air  was twice as nice as seeing smiles on faces. As the flowerpots sweated with flames, I felt excited as more parties happened in the air. As we heard laughter in the background and cheering chants, sizzling sausages made me feel hungry.’BOOM BOOM BANG’was heard from every corner in the street. Dancing smoke was surrounding all of us as we breathed it in and raced down my lungs. One by one, colours just bursted up with popping noises which made us frightened. As I yawned, I felt really exhausted but I didn’t want it to end. I strolled down to my bedroom with a last forever smile, feeling that this day wouldn’t be forgotten. Ash and smoke travelled down the street like it was a misty fog saying its goodbyes.

The Three Musketeers

Once in a land called Soccer Land there were three boys named Joe, Mark and Sam.They were best friends ever since kindergarten. The three boys all went to the same school. Joe was the most popular out of both of them because his name is just like Joe Jonas and because he had wavy hair that would swing around while the cool breezy wind flowed by. On the other hand Mark was the youngest one and also the cutest one too. Sam was kind of like a nerd but not completely a nerd, he was just the brainy one. One day there was a special notice that had to go home to the parents and it was a notice that said: Soccer Tournament this Friday,You can also join for free.
Joe, Mark and Sam were so excited that they just signed up.They didn’t even know how to play soccer in fact they didn’t even know what soccer was. When it was time to train the three friends didn’t even know what to do so they just copied what everyone else was doing. It was quite embarassing for them because they were all doing it wrong, so everyone else started to laugh with joy.The boys thought that they were laughing about something else but they were wrong, really wrong. When they went home they were researching facts about soccer. After they had got all of those facts into their minds they were all ready. When it was Thursday they had got better and better and no one seemed to laugh at them any more because there was nothing to laugh about.

When Friday had come the boys were already fit and trained up. They learnt really quick about soccer because they are boys. When they had reached the soccer fields they all became nervous because everyone was counting on them escpecially Joe.Then the games were about to start the horn went on and the games had begun. Joe,Mark and Sam were off they were starting off with a good start actually, Sam and Mark had already got ten goals but Joe had only got nine goals.

Until there were only one minute on the clock until the games were finished and everyone was counting on Joe to get the last goal.
But Joe had caught up to the ball and took it off the other team and then headed to their goal.Joe had zoomed off with the ball so fast that they couldn’t even see him. He was stepping everyone with the ball. When Joe was nearly there he kicked the ball as hard as he could and then it went into the goal. Everyone was so proud of Joe that they had a party just for a celebration and his mother was so proud of him she bought him a new phone and a new ipod.

After few minutes later the three friends were called The Three Musketeers. Then they went to a pizza bar and celebrated there. Then after 5 years the three musketeers coach their own soccers teams now.

When Fish Came to Tahiti

One hot splendid day there lived two children named Anna and Joshua. They lived on a beautiful and most gorgeous island called Tahiti. The island was surrounded by lovely palm trees, pure white sand, glimmering water that would shimmer around the seagulls while they would swim, fantastic fale’s and excellent people in the village.  The two kids always wore spectacular looking clothes. They always wore the same colours.  If Anna wore blue and red Joshua would wear blue and red so you get what I mean. They were like twins except they weren’t family. But they really wished they were because they loved to have sleepovers with pillow fights and eat mouth watering fruit with delicious smoothies to drink.

One day the whole entire village started to moan about the amount of fruit they were eating. Every day they would have fruit for breakfast, fruit for lunch and fruit for dinner and even fruit for a quick snack. There was lots of moaning going on!!! Every day the children would wake early from all that racket. They couldn’t even shut their eyelids. Until one day the children had enough of the moaning so they got up and stepped outside and shouted to everyone”STOP MOANING SO WE CAN HAVE SOME SLEEP, IF YOU DO STOP MOANING ABOUT EATING FRUIT THEN WE WILL PROMISE THAT WE WILL FIND YOU SOMETHING ELSE TO EAT BEFORE SUNSET!” So the children went off to find something else that the village could eat.The children  would do anything to stop that annoying moaning.

The children were searching for hours. Suddenly they spotted something moving around in the ocean, it was a fish, but there was more where that came from. There was a whole sea of fish! The children found some string, a long wooden stick and a hook that was as sharp as a swordfish quilla quill. With all those tools they could catch fish for the village to eat so they managed to catch a fish and  then cooked it. They had a little taste of the fish, it tasted so succulent that the children were hungry for more but they had marched off to tell the whole village about the tasty fish. Then they gave people a taste of the fish they loved it. They thought that the fish was mouth watering with all its flavours. They just wanted  more and more. The Mayor had announced that fish is the best food ever to be caught and cooked in Tahiti. So fish was the most popular food for a long time. The children had saved the day from eating fruit for the rest of their lives. They still liked to eat fruit but not ALL THE TIME!!!

Writing Reflection

This week for writing we are focusing on speech writing.Today in our writing lesson we learnt about speech presentations and the structure of a speech. We also brainstormed different topics for speech writing this week.I have decided to write a speech about haircuts because firstly I think it is really annoying when you get a haircut, secondly it just ruins your beautiful hair and last but not least some barber shops don’t even know how to cut hair like professionals. I look forward to writing my speech about haircuts for my speech presentation next week.

B.A.R Key

Use the BAR key to improve the design of a digital camera.

The key that I did was the BAR key this represents bigger, add and replace.I used a digital camera. The thing I did for  bigger is making the lense a bit large so that you could capture people thats not in the footage. Also I added a note pad and a pencil so when someone is filming and they forget their line we could just tell them.Lastly I replaced the flash button into a zoom button so when you want to see it closely you could just press the zoom button.

Character Description - Ellie

Today I read a story about ‘Communication Breakdown’. This story is about  three aliens who came to planet earth. This story is a play. We are practicing our presentation skills as this will help us prepare for our movie making project next week.

The character I play in the story is Ellie. She is one of the children who gets frightened from the aliens and who is greedy to be on the news.I think that Ellie is a great character to play but she is a bit poshy and greedy.
